Getting Over a Head Cold:
What I’ve Been Doing
The Head Cold
This past week I came down with a head cold with sinus pressure. It sucks! Started out just me feeling worn down, then I woke up the following day (Day 2) feeling crummy. Day 2 came with a fever, body aches, runny nose, sinus congestion, cough and sneezing. By day 3, feeling a significantly better, but not fully over this bug.
You may know someone who has this cold, or may you, yourself, may be experiencing/experienced this seasonal cold. It is the season for circulating respiratory viruses. So, for this week’s newsletter I’m sharing what I’ve been doing to help get over this bug.
What I’ve been doing

Vitamin C - I’ve been taking about 1000-2000mg of vitamin C per day. I could go higher, but I’ve gotten additional vitamin c in other means.
Zinc - a couple of emails ago I wrote about zinc. Started taking a daily zinc to help support my immune system.
NAC - N-acetyl-cysteine - is a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory, and mucus thinner. You’re body naturally produces it, but sometimes we need additional NAC. Think of this as a natural guaifenesin.
Elderberry - a natural anti-viral. This comes in many forms. I didn’t make my elderyberry syrup this year, but that could be one form to take it. I’ve been “eating” some elderyberry chewables lozenges.
Aller-Aid - a probiotic supplement to help with allergies. Taking it because I’ve been sneezing a lot. Hoping it helps reduce that.
Flucomune - an Ayurvedic herbal supplement for immune support.
Benedryl - only thing that has truly helped reduce my sneezing and runny nose.
Sudafed with pseudoephedrine - Sometimes you just got to use pharmaceuticals to help with the symptoms. Pseudoephedrine helps reduce inflammation that is causing nasal congestion and runny nose. FYI - Phenylephrine was reported to have no effect on nasal congestion.
Infrared Sauna - I have done 2 rounds of IR sauna, each lasting about 20mins. IR sauna helps heat up your body from the inside out. Infrared penetrates deeper than regular hot saunas. The benefits of IR sauna include: a) stimulates your mitochondria/metabolism, b) stimulates your immune system, and c) “detox” sweating out the funk.
IV Therapy - had a nutrient IV therapy early on to help give my body some nutrients that will be used up while fighting this bug.
Other things that could be done, but have not done:
Wet sock therapy - a form of hydrotherapy using wet socks. As odd as it sounds, it really works to help reduce fevers, head colds, etc.
Fire Cider - an apple cider vinegar enriched with some herbs that helps keep your immune system in check.
What else would you do to get over a head cold?
